Safety Edges can be used in many applications such as machine guards, lifting tables, roller shutter doors... and activated, will immediately switch off the power source. Previous to the launch of the Haake safety edge, either electrically operating devices using the N/O principle (two conductive strips or layers are brought together when the safety edge is operated), or opto-electronic systems (a light beam is interrupted) were the standard product options available on the market. Such devices operate via signals, which need to be transformed and processed via a control unit.
Safe Edges conform to the requirements of a Category 3 system as defined in BS EN 945-1 safety of machinery - safety related parts of control systems 1997
The photograph shows a Safety Edges on a Lift Table. Should the edge be pressed the power to the table is immediately isolated, stopping the dangerous movement.
